Translate a Zoom Recording: Zoom Cannot, But You Can

The Zoom app cannot translate a recording you have already saved. Zoom's translation tools only work during the call. They stop when the call ends.

So the way to translate a Zoom recording is in 2 steps. First you turn the audio into text. That text is called a transcript. Then you translate the transcript.

Can Zoom translate a recording?

No. Zoom has translated captions, but they are a live feature. Captions are the words that show on screen as people talk.

Translated captions show that text in another language while people are talking. They do not work on a file you saved last week.

There are 2 more things to know:

• They cost extra. Translated captions come with Zoom's top business plans. On smaller paid plans you buy them as an add-on. They are not in the free plan.
• You cannot save them. Since May 2026, Zoom no longer lets you save captions after a meeting. Captions are live-only now.

So you may have used translated captions in the meeting. You still do not get a file after it.

On paid plans, Zoom can make a transcript of a cloud recording. The setting has to be on before the meeting starts. That transcript comes out in one language. Zoom will not turn it into another one for you.

How do I translate a Zoom recording?

To translate a Zoom recording, transcribe it first. Then translate the transcript. Zoom has no button for this. Its translation runs live and stops when the call ends. So download the file Zoom saved. Upload it to a transcription tool. Pick your language and download the translated text.

1. Find the recording on your computer.
2. Upload the MP4 video file, or the audio file, to a transcription tool.
3. Wait for the transcript to finish.
4. Choose the language you want.
5. Download the translated text.

That is all you do. There is no Zoom setting to turn on, and nothing to install.

By default, Zoom saves your recording to a Zoom folder inside Documents. This works the same on Windows and Mac. Each meeting gets its own folder, with an MP4 video and a separate audio file.
